The New England Patriots have confirmed that they have placed tight end Rob Gronkowski on their injured reserve list.
The 24-year-old reportedly sustained a torn ACL and MCL after taking a hit from Cleveland Browns safety TJ Ward in the third quarter of the Patriots' victory.
Gronkowski was taken to hospital and underwent an MRI scan today which revealed that the severity of his injury will not allow him to play again this campaign, so the team placed him on season-ending IR.
The Patriots have signed tight end DJ Williams to replace the two-time All-Pro on their 53-man roster.
This is the second season-ending injury Gronkowski has suffered in as many years as a forearm problem ruled him out of the 2012 playoffs.
