The New England Patriots have announced that they have released Brandon Spikes, just a month after re-signing the linebacker.
The 27-year-old moved back to the Super Bowl champions after spending the 2013 season with the Buffalo Bills following a previous four-year spell with the Patriots, which ended on a sour note when Spikes took several parting shots at the club.
However, the linebacker revealed that he and head coach Bill Belichick had decided to put their differences aside when he penned a one-year deal to re-sign for the club last month.
Over the weekend, a car registered to Spikes was found abandoned with damage to the front of the vehicle on a highway in Foxborough near to where an accident was reported to Massachusetts State Police.
As a result of the news, the Patriots decided to cut ties with the 27-year-old, just 23 days into his second spell with the team.
Spikes has recorded 340 tackles, two sacks and two interceptions in his five-year NFL career.
