Santonio Holmes has been told that he will need further surgery on his injured left foot before he is able to return for the New York Jets.
The wide receiver has been out of action since suffering a Lisfranc injury while playing against the San Francisco 49ers in September.
The 28-year-old said: "I've got another surgery in February, that's all I know.
"I really miss being [at the MetLife Stadium]. I knew the minute I didn't get off the ground that my season was over."
Holmes will undergo the surgery in February to remove plates fitted in October to help repairs the injury.
Doctor have told him that he is unlikely to return to training before April.
