New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has insisted that he is the right man to be the franchise's starter despite their recent poor form.

The Jets lost for the fourth time in the last five games with a 24-17 defeat to the Houston Texans on Sunday, as their struggles on the offensive side of the game continued.

However, despite admitting that he has not played well in recent games Fitzpatrick said that he is sure he is up to the task of being the franchise's starting QB.

"I am the right man for the job," he told reporters. "I think, fortunately and unfortunately, that I have got a lot of experience in playing for teams that have been in this situation where we lost a few games and we have got to stay the course, we have got to right the ship.

"I think that at this point in my career I have learned a ton, and all of the different situations that I have been in, I have no problem shouldering any blame that gets thrown my way and all the blame that I deserve and do not deserve.

"The only way that I know how to fix things is to continue to work hard and ignore the outside noise. I think that confidence is a lot of it, just getting some sort of swagger back and all that is going to come through preparation and working hard at practice."

The Jets have the chance to move up to second in the AFC East when they host the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
