New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan has revealed that quarterback Mark Sanchez is not fit enough to return against the New England Patriots.
Sanchez missed his side's season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a shoulder injury he picked up during pre-season, as Geno Smith guided the Jets to victory.
"He's not going to play this game. It's a short week, he's not going to play this game," Ryan told reporters.
"This is a mutual thing with the team and Mark to let's go get, find out exactly where he is, maybe a different opinion. But he hasn't had a setback or anything else.
"He's been doing a good job with his rehab, but this is just, the situation, clearly he's not going to play this week. So let's make sure that everything's, that we are 100% confident in what we think we have."
Sanchez had the most turnovers by any quarterback in the NFL last season with 25.
