New York Jets defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson has admitted that he thought he would have penned a long-term contract extension with the club.
The 25-year-old has become an integral part of Rex Ryan's side, and earned an All-Pro berth for his displays in the 2013 campaign.
Wilkerson's rookie deal with the Jets expires after the 2015 season, but the defensive end is hopeful that a contract will be agreed by then.
"I mean, I thought it would be done, but it wasn't, so, hey, it is what it is," Wilkerson told ESPN. "I'm patiently waiting. If it happens, it happens."
Wilkerson has recorded 51 tackles, five sacks and one forced fumble in the 2014 season.
