Roger Goodell says that the NFL are looking at ways to improve officiating decisions, including how video replays and challenges are used.

League Commissioner Roger Goodell has indicated that a number of key changes could be enforced in order to improve the standard of officiating in the NFL.

In a press conference on Wednesday, Goodell admitted that he is considering altering how in-game replay reviews are handled, as well as expanding the role that VP of Officiating Dean Blandino plays each week.

According to NFL.com, Goodell said: "There's always room for improvement. We've had some errors that we think we need to correct. Some of the things we're discussing is how to do that, whether there are changes to replay, or to how we train or what we do on the field.

"We're going to look at everything. Our number one focus is to make sure we're providing the best officiating possible. Consistency is important. By bringing decisions into the league office on Sundays and having one person such as Dean actually making that decision, you can make an argument there's consistency.

"This is something the competition committee will be studying. It's something we discussed with the membership today. They'll come back with a report and perhaps we'll make an adjustment from there."

Video replays have been used in the NFL since September 1986.
