The head of NFL international suggests that London could host eight regular-season games a year by 2020.

London could host eight NFL games per season by 2020, according to head of NFL international Mark Waller.

Three regular-season matches have been held at Wembley for the last two seasons, with a commitment to at least two games per season at the iconic venue agreed until 2020.

Twickenham will become host to a game a season from 2016, while a deal has been reached with Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur to host at least two games a season at their new stadium from 2018.

The agreements mean that at least five NFL games will take place in London in the 2018 season, although Waller thinks that number could rise further.

"The contractual commitment we have with Tottenham and Wembley is a minimum of two games [each]," Waller told Sky Sports News. "My goal has been very simple, which is give our ownership the opportunity to play as many games as possible in the UK.

"So optionality of venues, world-class venues that can host our games within London, I think we've got three - you could argue four of the venues, the fourth one potentially Olympic Stadium is the one we're not in but we're in the other three that can do it. If we wanted to we could probably do eight games."

Wembley was almost at capacity for this season's three games, with an average attendance of over 84,000.
