Fears are growing that the season's climax in New York at the beginning of February will be postponed or even abandoned, with forecasts predicting difficult elements for playing football.
However, the NFL have contingency plans in place should the game at the MetLife Stadium be at risk.
According to NFL.com, thousands of trucks and more than 60,000 tons of salt will be used to combat poor weather, and giant snow melters will be used to clear the playing surface and make it safe.
The Super Bowl has never been held in the city of New York.
