Oakland Raiders right tackle Khalif Barnes has admitted that the injury suffered by teammate Jared Veldheer is a "big blow" to the team.
Veldheer will miss a large chunk of the 2013 NFL season after being informed that his torn left triceps will require surgery, and it is yet to be seen whether the left tackle will feature at all in the upcoming campaign.
Barnes believes that the Raiders will miss Veldheer's presence and leadership in both matches and training.
"It's a real big blow. Jared's a big part of our line. He's a big guy," Barnes told The AP.
"He comes to work every day, you never hear him complaining, just tries to go in, get the job done, he just tries to perfect his craft every day at practice. He's a good part of our team, a good leader for our team."
Veldheer's position in the side is likely to be filled by veteran Alex Barron, who has already expressed his desire to make the most of the opportunity.
