Tony Sparano: 'Latavius Murray still has a lot to prove'

Oakland Raiders interim head coach Tony Sparano is adamant that running back Latavius Murray still has a lot of work to do before he becomes a core part of his side.

Oakland Raiders interim head coach Tony Sparano has insisted that running back Latavius Murray still has a long way to go before he proves himself in the NFL.

The 24-year-old put in an excellent display to fire his side to their first win of the season as he ran for two touchdowns and 112 yards against the Kansas City Chiefs, despite missing the majority of the game with a concussion.

"I know what he did, but he played nine plays and unfortunately got hurt. He had a heck of a run," Sparano told reporters. "He also had the ball out one time which we need to get corrected.

"Like any young player there is a progress you've got to see before you feel like you're going to put him out there in those situations.

"I've had to see that in practice, and little by little I've seen it and this has kind of been where it has gone."

The Raiders have a 1-10 record in their season following their win over the Chiefs.
