Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly has insisted that any blame should fall on his shoulders first and foremost after the franchise lost heavily against the Detroit Lions on Thursday.

Eagles went down 45-14 to the Lions to slip to a third successive defeat and leave them third in the NFC East with a 4-7 record.

Kelly maintained that he still had confidence in his group of players and insisted that fingers should be pointed at him rather than any of the playing staff.

"I am a coach, not a player," he told ESPN. "It starts with me. I am not pointing fingers at anybody, and I do not think that anybody points fingers at anybody [else].

"I think that once you start pointing fingers and saying that you blame it on somebody else, then you have lost what you have to do.

"I have confidence in those players, I have seen them play before. I have a lot of confidence, I think that we have some really good guys."

The Eagles next face a clash against unbeaten New England Patriots on December 6.
