Mike Tomlin has insisted that Sean Spence can make a full recovery from the knee injury which has threatened to end his career.
Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker coach Keith Butler recently said that it would be "miraculous" if the 24-year-old featured for the team in 2013.
The Steelers head coach told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: "All the rehab is going to according to plan. No news there.
"I did hear the opinion regarding Spence. My opinion differs. I think he'll have a full recovery. But now you have two opinions, neither of which are expert medical opinions, so do with it what you wish."
The linebacker, who was drafted by the Steelers in the third round last year, sustained multiple ligament tears during a pre-season game in 2012.
