David Akers beats Billy Cundiff to the kicker role for the San Francisco 49ers.

The San Francisco 49ers have confirmed that David Akers will remain as the kicker for the team this weekend.

The 38-year-old has made 29 of 42 field goal attempts this season, resulting in the team signing Billy Cundiff to compete for a position on the starting roster.

The club have confirmed that Cundiff will remain with the team should Akers form not improve.

The 49ers face a home game against the Green Bay Packers in the divisional round of the playoffs tomorrow.
