Vernon Davis scores two touchdowns as the San Francisco 49ers beat the Dallas Cowboys 28-17 at the AT&T Stadium.

The San Francisco 49ers started the season with success in Texas thanks to a 28-17 victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night.

It was a disappointing opening to the new campaign for Tony Romo and the Cowboys as the 49ers capitalised on early errors to score from four turnovers.

The scoring was started in the opening minute by Chris Culliver, who took full advantage of a fumble in just the third play to run 35 yards for the touchdown.

Dallas reduced the deficit midway through the first quarter thanks to a Dan Bailey field goal, but the game soon slipped away from the hosts.

Colin Kaepernick then started to weave his magic late in the opening period, picking out Vernon Davis twice in the space of a couple of minutes to help the 49ers extend their lead to 21-3.

The Cowboys improved defensively in the second quarter, but their resistance didn't last long as Carlos Hyde powered over from 4 yards to edge San Francisco closer to victory moments before the half-time break.

There would be a response from Dallas, though, with DeMarco Murray rushing over from two yards following a 14-play drive from the hosts.

However, Dallas struggled to build any momentum in the final quarter as Romo's difficult day continued at the AT&T Stadium.

Romo would throw his first touchdown pass of the day with less than two minutes remaining when he picked out Terrance Williams from just a few yards out, but the Cowboys had left it too late to force a dramatic finish.
