Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman has admitted that his controversial style might be two decades too late for the NFL.
Sherman came under scrutiny during last Sunday's NFC championship game win, with his defensive contribution being slightly tarnished by an interview he gave in the aftermath of the match.
He has since conceded that he could have handled his emotions better following the game.
On Wednesday, Sherman told reporters: "I feel like my game might be 20 years too late. Maybe I studied - Muhammad Ali, the Deion Sanderses, the Michael Irvins, the Jerry Rices - the old-school game more than I studied the new-school game.
"I play it that way and it rubs a lot of people the wrong way. I guess maybe I just haven't adjusted to the times."
Sherman, 25, was a fifth-round pick for Seattle in the 2011 NFL Draft, and has appeared in every game for the franchise since.
