Roger Goodell has insisted that the NFL is committed to success in the "St Louis market".

There has been speculation that the St Louis Rams could be getting ready to head back to Los Angeles after owner Stan Kroenke purchased a large plot of land in the city, which was the franchise's home until 1994.

Speaking at his annual "State of the League" news conference, the NFL commissioner said: "Stan is a very successful developer. He has billions of dollars in projects around the country of real-estate development.

"I think, instead of overreacting, we should make sure we do what's necessary to continue to support the team locally, which the fans have done in St Louis. And make sure we can do whatever we can to make sure that team is successful in the St. Louis market."

Goodell also stated that Kroenke is yet to decide what he is going to do with the 60-acre plot.
