Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III has stated that he aware the team have won nothing yet, and that the hard work will start now if they want to challenge for the Super Bowl next season.

Griffin was speaking following the signing of Philadelphia Eagles star receiver DeSean Jackson, who agreed a deal with the club on Wednesday morning.

The optimism surrounding the Redskins' new-look offense has spilled over into the media, with many now tipping them to at least win their NFC East division and battle in the post-season.

Griffin told The Washington Post: "It's an exciting time to be a Redskins fan and be a part of this team because of the firepower that we have now.

"But, everyone needs to understand that we haven't won anything yet, and these next few months will be about building those bonds and chemistry so that we can challenge.

"We are excited to have DeSean join our team. Our team and this city will be there for him. I understand his drive and his competitiveness to win; always doing it for his late father and now doing it for this city."

Jackson himself told reporters that it was in fact the strong welcoming influence of Griffin which convinced him to sign with his new team.
