Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan has revealed that quarterback Robert Griffin III should be ready to start the first game of the new NFL season.
Griffin suffered a serious knee injury at the tail end of last season and is yet to return to full team training as he continues his recovery.
However, Shanahan is happy with the progress that the 23-year-old is showing and believes that he will be fully fit by the time they face the Philadelphia Eagles on September 9.
"Without a setback we believe he will be ready for the first game," ESPN quotes Shanahan as saying.
"I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there will be no setback and we'll have him for the first game of the season, but if there is a setback we will adjust accordingly."
Griffin was the second overall pick in the 2012 Draft and went on to win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award last season.
