New Washington Redskins personnel executive Doug Williams is delighted at having returned to the team where he won the Super Bowl as a player.

New Washington Redskins personnel executive Doug Williams has expressed his delight at returning to the club where he spent four seasons with as a player.

Williams enjoyed a memorable stint with the Redskins between 1986 and 1989, guiding the team to Super Bowl success in 1987 with an MVP-winning display in a 42-10 victory over the Denver Broncos in the showpiece event.

The 58-year-old, who turned down an opportunity to join the Redskins in 2010, will work alongside director of pro personnel Morocco Brown and director of player personnel Scott Campbell in his new role, and he is looking forward to getting started.

"It's a great day for me to come back into the family. It's the right fit because of the turnover and the direction the organization is going at this time," Williams is quoted as saying by ESPN.

"As we know coach [Mike] Shanahan, when he was here he had the last word on whatever decision or player.

"Now it will be more of a team effort situation with [general manager] Bruce [Allen] and Morocco and Scott and the other scouts. Everyone will have a voice."

The Redskins suffered a disappointing 2013 campaign, finishing bottom of the NFC East with a 3-13 record.
