Harry Aikines-Aryeetey says that he has "never experienced anything like" the roar that he received from the Hampden Park crowd prior to his 100m heat at Glasgow 2014.

English sprinter Harry Aikines-Aryeetey has said that he has "never experienced anything like" the reception that he received from the Hampden Park crowd during day one of the Commonwealth Games' athletics.

Although he finished third in his 100m heat and didn't qualify for the semi-finals automatically, Aikines-Aryeetey was the joint-fastest qualifying loser with a time of 10.33 seconds.

When asked about the atmosphere in the stadium, Aikines-Aryeetey, a former world junior champion, told Sports Mole: "It's amazing out there! I've never experienced anything like that before so I can't wait to get moving forward."

The 25-year-old also said that he felt a better start would have seen him qualify automatically.

"I mean I didn't have the best of starts with a 0.214 reaction," he added. "If I had taken a tenth off of that it would have given me 10.23 so I would have been up there with the winner. But, after watching two false starts, I just didn't want to risk anything.

"You just want to make sure that you're through and do the best that you can do."

Aikines-Aryeetey's England teammate Adam Gemili set the fastest time of the heats by crossing the line in 10.15 seconds.
