Team England 100m runner Adam Gemili insists that he knows of his "dangerous" opposition after setting the fastest time of today's heats at the Commonwealth Games.

Adam Gemili has insisted that he won't underestimate the competition after setting the fastest time in the men's 100m heats at the Commonwealth Games this afternoon.

Gemili's time of 10.15 seconds in the sixth heat saw him finish a hundredth of a second better than Jamaica's Kemar Bailey-Cole.

Speaking to reporters afterwards, Gemili said: "Well, you put yourself in the final and then anything can happen. I know [my competition], they're quick guys. Don't underestimate them. When they put their foot on the gas and get it right they're dangerous guys.

"I've just got to run my own race and have fun with it because that reception I got was absolutely crazy. I haven't had something like that since the Olympics."

A former Dagenham and Redbridge and Chelsea youth defender, Gemili said that competing at Hampden Park, primarily a football venue, was a "great experience".

"I was doing my laces and then looked up and the camera was in front of me and then there was just a massive roar," he added. "It was unbelievable and took me by surprise a little bit.

"Hampden Park has a big history with football and it's nice to come out here and experience that. I trained here yesterday and was just walking in and out of Hampden Park like it was nothing. It's a great experience."

Given the absence of Jamaican duo Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake, the 100m title looks wide open ahead of tomorrow's semi-finals and final.
