Richard Kilty: 'I'm stuck in rubbish form'

England's Richard Kilty blames "rubbish form" for his exit at the semi-final stage of the men's 100m in Glasgow.

Richard Kilty has blamed his "rubbish form" for failing to qualify for the final of the men's 100m at the Commonwealth Games.

Teammate Adam Gemili went on to take silver at the showpiece event of the athletics tonight, while Kilty was eliminated at the semi-final stage after a disappointing sixth-place finish in his heat earlier in the evening.

"[I'm] a little bit disappointed," Kilty told Sports Mole. "I was hoping to come here and run better than I have done all season, but it seems I'm stuck in this rubbish form which I've been in. My first outdoor race was decent, but since then there is clearly something which has gone wrong.

"I've tried to put my hand on it - I've thought of a few reasons why it is I've been [in this form]. There'll be changes made next year, so hopefully I can come back next year, perform better and show the form that I should have done which I definitely haven't shown otherwise."

The 24-year-old admitted that he is "not as fit" as he could have been for the event in Glasgow and vowed to make changes to his training regime.

"I can't make any excuses, on the day that's all I had," he added. "Around 10.2s seems to be all I can do for my last couple of races, and everybody knows I'm better than that with the form that I showed indoors.

"There is clearly something going wrong - my start times aren't as quick as they were. I'm definitely not getting to the halfway point in 6.4s, which I was indoors, so there is clearly something that needs ironing out I think. I did as much strength training from the indoors to out as I could have done so I feel like I'm lacking a little bit on the power end. I'm not as fit as I could have been."

Kilty will next compete as part of the England team in the 4x100m relay event on Friday.
