Team England long jumper Jazmin Sawyers insists that she is ready to make the "step up" to competing at senior events having reached the final of the Commonwealth Games.

Team England long jumper Jazmin Sawyers has expressed her belief that she is ready to make the "step up" to challenging in senior events.

Sawyers made her way into the final of the Commonwealth Games this morning as she posted a best jump of 6.39m on her first attempt to finish fourth highest in qualifying.

Having won medals at the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2011 and the European Junior Championships last year, her progression into the final is another step in the right direction, and she is confident that she is ready to compete at such a high level.

"In qualifying you have to get the job done, and I've done that. Normally the past few qualifying [rounds] I've done, I've scared myself and had to leave it to the last round to get a decent jump in. I didn't do that this time, I got my best jump in the first round so I'm really pleased," Sawyers told Sports Mole.

"There was no point yesterday thinking about winning a medal or finishing top six in the final, because I hadn't even made the finals. So all I let myself think about up until now is 'right, get the qualifying jump done and get yourself in the final'.

"I feel like this year I've been ready to take a step up to seniors and it hasn't overwhelmed me too much."

Sawyers will be joined by compatriots Shara Proctor and Lorraine Ugen in the final, which takes place tomorrow evening.
