England's Martin Brockman started his decathlon campaign in disappointing fashion as he finished last in his 100m heat on Monday morning.
The start of the race was twice delayed due to false starts from Jake Stein, with the Australian missing out on points for the event after being disqualified for his mistakes.
Brockman struggled to get out of the blocks quickly, and he was powerless to prevent his four rivals from pulling away in the second half of the race.
Kurt Felix won the opening heat with a personal best of 11.02 seconds ahead of brother and Grenada teammate Lindon Victory, whose own best of 11.06 seconds was enough for second place.
