Katarina Johnson-Thompson has won her first global outdoor heptathlon title with victory at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.
The 25-year-old entered the final event - the 800m - with a 174-point lead over Canada's Nina Schultz, meaning that she would be guaranteed gold if she finished within 14 seconds of her closest competitor.
Johnson-Thompson stayed just behind Schultz for the whole race despite the Canadian kicking on during the final 200m on her way to a personal best, crossing the line less than four seconds adrift to confirm the gold by 122 points.
There was more good news for England as 18-year-old Niamh Emerson cruised to victory in the 800m with a time of 2:12.18, which was enough to see her overhaul Australian Celeste Mucci for bronze.
Johnson-Thompson had gone into the final day with the lead following victories in the high jump and 200m on Thursday, and she increased that further with a dominant showing in the long jump this morning.
