Jamaica's double Olympic silver medallist at the 2012 London Games, Yohan Blake, believes that he and his countrymen will dominate the sprints in the foreseeable future.

Jamaica's double Olympic silver medallist at the 2012 London Games, Yohan Blake, has said that he and his countrymen will dominate the sprints for years to come.

The Caribbean nation has been setting the pace since 2008, with Usain Bolt winning gold in the 100m and 200m both at the London Olympics and the Beijing Games four years ago.

In London this year, Jamaica won eight of the 12 individual sprint medals awarded, leading Blake to predict a bright future for his country.

"I would say until the day that we all leave the earth [we will continue to dominate]," Reuters quotes him as saying.

"Because with the calibre of athletes we have right now and given everything the athletes are doing and the JAAA (Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association) and the government.

"Taking everything into consideration and doing what is necessary for the younger generation coming up with the wonderful talent at the [boys' and girls' high school] championships and keeping the athletes back in Jamaica, with different training camps and all of that."

Blake finished second behind Bolt in both the 100m and the 200m at the 2012 London Olympics.
