Former British hurdler insists athletes should be banned from the Olympics of caught using drugs.

Former 110m hurdler Colin Jackson has stated that athletes should continue to be banned from the Olympics if they are discovered taking illegal drugs.

The BOA may be forced to reconsider their policy on drug taking after the UK Anti-Doping agency called for a reduced ban for athletes guilty of taking recreational drugs.

However, 44-year-old Jackson believes the BOA should stick to their policy. “The rules have been set out for a long time. If you play with fire you’re going to get burnt,” he told talkSPORT.

"The truth is that when you’re taking drugs, that is the consequence, you may never compete at the Olympic Games. I agree that the BOA should keep that type of stance.”

The former British athlete insisted that the competitors are aware of the consequences and should be accountable for any misuse of drugs.

“As an athlete you know the responsibility you should have for yourself. No-one else looks after you apart from you,” he added.

“Anything that goes in your body is down to you. Nowadays there are so many people who are there to help you and give you guidance.

"Athletes who are foolish enough not to take that help pay the consequence.”

Meanwhile, London 2012 chairman Sebastian Coe has praised the Olympic preparations after six of the main venues in the Olympic Park reached completion.
