Amsterdam has been named as the host city for the 2016 European Athletics Championships.
The European Athletics Council awarded the games to the Dutch capital ahead of rival bids from Istanbul and Split.
"We are very pleased to confirm that Amsterdam will be the hosts of the European Athletics Championships in 2016," European Athletics president Hansjorg Wirz said in a statement.
"We are sure that we can look forward to a fantastic event."
The Dutch are reportedly keen on hosting the 2028 Olympics and are hoping that they will show their potential at the 2016 games.
"We are very proud to have been entrusted with this great event," said Amsterdam's Vice-Mayor Eric van der Burg.
"This is also a milestone for the Netherlands and its vision to bring the Olympic Games to the country in 2028."
