Edna Kiplagat believes that a new marathon world record is a realistic possibility at this year's race in London.

The Kenyan athlete, who won last year's race and holds two world titles, is part of another elite field in England's capital, and she believes that Paula Radcliffe's 12-year record could be under threat.

The 35-year-old told the event's official website: "With former and current half-marathon world record holders and three London Marathon champions in the race this year, the world record is very possible with proper pace setting and conducive weather.

"The preparations that I and the other women put in, and the preparation from the race organisers is also important.

"It is a fantastic field, with elite competitors that could pose a challenge. Nevertheless, I have improved on my tactics to match the level of this year's field."

This year's race takes place on April 26.
