Paula Radcliffe has admitted that she fought back the tears during her final London Marathon race on Sunday.
The 41-year-old, who has won the 26.2-mile course three times, finished her final appearance in two hours, 36 minutes and 55 seconds.
"It was just amazing the whole way round," BBC Sport quotes Radcliffe as saying. "I wore the sunglasses to keep a lid on my emotions and they definitely hid some tears along the way.
"I came into this race unprepared and hoped the magic of the London Marathon would help me and I'm sure it did."
Radcliffe, who had foot surgery in 2012, still holds the world record time of two hours, 15 minutes and 25 seconds from her triumph in 2003.
