American 400m runner Jeremy Wariner is out of the World Championships in South Korea.

Former Olympic and world 400m champion Jeremy Wariner will miss this month's World Championships due to a foot injury.

The American 27-year-old tore a ligament in the second toe of his left foot while training in July, meaning he will now sit out the event in South Korea.

"Right now my focus is to get healthy, prepare for next season, and try for my second 400m Olympic gold," said Wariner.

Wariner's injury does not require surgery but recovery may take up to 12 weeks.
