Spain's Javier Gomez overtook Great Britain's Jonathan Brownlee on the final straight to win the ITU World Triathlon Grand Final in London.
Jonathan, who is 23 years of age and is the younger of the two Brownlee brothers, had led for much of the race, but could not hold off a late surge by Gomez, who sprinted past the Englishman to secure his third ITU title in a pulsating finish.
"I gave it everything but there was nothing I could do. It was tough," Brownlee told BBC Radio 5 live.
Olympic champion Alistair Brownlee, 25, has struggled with an ankle injury this season and finished well adrift of the leaders.
