Daryll Neita, Zharnel Hughes and Jeramiah Azu win 100m medals at the European Championships for Great Britain, as Dina Asher-Smith pulls up with cramp.

Great Britain scooped a total of three medals in the men's and women's 100m events at the European Championships in Munich.

Zharnel Hughes entered the men's race seeking to defend the 100m title he won in 2018, but the 27-year-old lost his grip on the crown and was forced to settle for silver with a time of 9.99 seconds.

Italy's Lamont Marcell Jacobs equalled the Championship Record of 9.95 seconds - set by Hughes in 2018 - to take the gold medal, and an overjoyed Jeremiah Azu ran a personal best of 10.13 to clinch the bronze.

The 21-year-old Welshman let emotion take over as he secured his maiden international medal at senior level, while compatriot Reece Prescod was down in seventh with 10.18.

In the subsequent women's race, Dina Asher-Smith sought to retain her own European 100m title from four years ago, but the reigning champion pulled up with cramp midway through the race.

With Asher-Smith out of contention, Switzerland's Mujinga Kambundji exploded beyond the chasing pack, but Daryll Neita and home favourite Gina Luckenkemper closed the gap in the final moments.

Kambundji and Luckenkemper both finished with 10.99 on the clock, but the latter - who took a tumble at the end of the race - edged ahead by the tiniest of margins to win the European crown.

Neita claimed the bronze medal after finishing 0.01 seconds behind the pair, while compatriot Imani Lansiquot cut an upbeat figure after the race after finishing fifth in a time of 11.21.
