James Ellington believes that he has let down his fellow Team GB squad members by failing to qualify for the semi-finals of the men's 200m.
The 26-year-old went into this afternoon's heat in good form. However, he ran his slowest time of the year so far, which was only good enough for to finish sixth.
Reflecting on his performance, the sprinter was unable to explain the reason behind his time.
"I don't know what to say, that was the slowest race I have done all year," he told BBC Sport. "I felt good in warm up but I had no gas left. I have no injury problems, training has been going well in Portugal, I am just gutted.
"There are people like Danny Talbot in good shape and I feel like I have taken someone's place and I've let the team down.
"I rise to occasions and I thought I would have a PB, I have not got a clue what is going on."
Ellington had been competing in his first Olympic Games.
