Team GB's Martyn Rooney has apologised to his relay teammates for his decision to ease up during their 4x400m semi-final earlier today.
The 25-year-old was in command of the final leg as he headed down the home straight. However, he opted to slow down in the closing stages, which allowed the Trinidad squad to pip him to the line.
"It was incredible. I want to apologise to the guys for not winning it. Trinidad's guy was a sprinter and he dipped at the end," he told BBC Sport.
"Tomorrow, we will come back and do better."
Rooney is expected to keep his place in the team for tomorrow's final, despite speculation that Dai Greene may be drafted in.
