Team GB's Goldie Sayers has confirmed that she will undergo surgery to correct an elbow injury.
The 30-year-old damaged ligaments during the women's javelin semi-final at the London Olympics earlier this week.
Having considered all of the options available to her, the Newmarket-born athlete has decided to go under the surgeon's knife.
"I gave it everything to the point where I ripped a ligament off the bone, so I do need surgery now," she told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire. "Whenever you have an injury, it does change the mechanics [of throwing] slightly.
"There'll be trials and tribulations along the way but I've had all sorts of surgery so I know the score on that."
Sayers recently revealed that she intends to compete at the 2016 Games in Brazil.
