Rhys Williams has expressed his happiness at reaching the semi-finals of the men's 400m hurdles earlier today.

The Great British athlete only finished fifth in his heat, but qualified for the next round by virtue of being one of the quickest runners-up.

Having lost out in a similar situation during the 2009 World Championships in Germany, Williams admitted that he was "delighted" to have won through this time around.

"I had flashbacks to Berlin when it went down to the slowest qualifier and I didn't get through," he told Team GB's official website. "I am delighted to be through but I've got to pick it up tomorrow and I will.

"I was pretty nervous [waiting to see if I went through]. Probably the most nervous I have ever been. But I am glad I am through. I have never experienced anything like that atmosphere."

The 28-year-old won gold at the recent European Championships.
