Lord Sebastian Coe backs the likes of Chancellor George Osborne and Home Secretary Theresa May to be part of the Paralympics medal ceremonies, despite both receiving bad receptions from the crowd.

Lord Sebastian Coe believes that politicians should be able to play a part in the medal ceremonies, despite a mixed reaction from the crowds at the Paralympics.

Chancellor George Osborne and Home Secretary Theresa May are two members of parliament who have been loudly booed by spectators during their respective appearances.

"I think it is right that the political leadership of the United Kingdom should be seen supporting something they've supported right from the very moment we flung our hat in the ring," Coe told the Press and Journal.

"There are 500 medal ceremonies, we require over 1,000 people, not just politicians. From time to time, I know from my own personal experience, you do become the pantomime villain in politics."

Prime Minister David Cameron also received a bad reception when he was present at a medal ceremony in the Aquatics Centre earlier this week.
