Former 100m Olympic champion Linford Christie hopes that Great Britain's current crop of sprinters can make their mark at next year's World Championship in Beijing.

Former 100m Olympic champion Linford Christie believes that Great Britain's sprinters have gained the necessary experience to make an impact at next year's World Championships.

The likes of Adam Gemili, James Dasaolu and Richard Kilty have won titles at the European Championships and World Indoors during 2014, and Christie is hopeful that they will have the confidence to perform in Beijing next August.

The 54-year-old told the Northern Echo: "This year went really well for the Brits and the Europeans and Commonwealths gave the confidence for the young people to go to the Worlds or the Olympics to make their marks.

"It gave them that vital experience which they're going to need next year for the World Championships and then at the Olympics in Rio in 2016.

"These boys run half as much as we used to but they've got to run a lot more races and, when they do, run them with some fast people."

The trio, as well as Harry Aikines-Aryeetey and James Ellington, have been placed on the lottery funding programme for next season.
