Sprint hurdler Lawrence Clarke says that he feels 'privileged' to be named Great Britain and Northern Ireland captain for the European Athletics Indoor Championships.

Lawrence Clarke has admitted that he feels "very lucky" to have been named captain of the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team for this month's European Athletics Indoor Championships.

The sprint hurdler was chosen by British Athletics performance director Neil Black to lead the team for the event, which is held between March 5 and 8 in Prague.

"I've worked so hard for so many years to be a part of the team and to be honoured in this way is a great privilege," Athletics Weekly quotes Clarke as saying. "I feel very lucky that Neil Black has asked me to lead the team and hopefully it will be a very successful championship.

"Neil said my indoor season has been going very well and I had performed consistently at championships. He felt it was time in my career and that I could be an inspiration to some of the team."

Last month, Clarke finished second to Kevin Craddock in the 60m hurdles at the Sainsbury's Indoor Grand Prix in Birmingham, after winning gold at the British Championships in Sheffield.
