The British Olympic Association are confident that Phillips Idowu will be fit to compete in the triple-jump at London 2012.

Triple-jumper Phillips Idowu is on course to be fit for the Olympics, according to the British Olympic Association (BOA).

There had been doubts over the Londoner's fitness after he failed to turn up at a pre-tournament training camp in Portugal.

The BOA then requested the 33-year-old's medical records, with which Idowu eventually complied, and it was revealed that he had a trapped nerve problem.

Today though, BOA chef de mission Andy Hunt is confident that Idowu will take part.

"Our medical team is in constant discussion with Phillips's team, including the physios," Hunt said.

"He is making good progress and right now, we expect that Phillips will compete."

Idowu is a former world champion and won the silver medal in Beijing four years ago.

The triple-jump competition gets underway with qualification on Tuesday.
