British distance runner Mo Farah speaks of his happiness following his record-breaking exploits over two miles at the Sainsbury's Indoor Grand Prix in Birmingham.

Great Britain's Mo Farah broke the first world record of his career at this afternoon's Sainsbury's Indoor Grand Prix in Birmingham.

The double Olympic champion left the remainder of the field trailing in his wake as he set a time of 8:03.40 seconds over two miles, beating the previous record of 8:04.34, which was held by Ethiopia's Kenenisa Bekel.

Speaking after his achievement, the 31-year-old told reporters: "I belong on the track so it's nice to be back. It's different training for a world record and training for the championships. I wanted to see what I could do as we'd targeted the world record.

"I'll never give up chasing medals for chasing world records – medals mean a lot to me. This week inspired me, I'm an athlete so I just did what I'm supposed to do. It feels amazing to break the world record."

The race was Farah's first of 2015.
