British sprinter Dina Asher-Smith refuses to brand herself a medal contender at next year's Olympic Games.

Great Britain's Dina Asher-Smith has insisted that she will not allow herself to get carried away by the recent performances that she produced at the World Athletics Championships in Beijing.

The 19-year-old sprinter recorded personal bests in the heats, semi-finals and final of the women's 200m - an event which saw her finish in fifth position overall.

Some pundits have since claimed that she should now target a place on the podium at next year's Olympic Games, but Asher-Smith has stressed that much will depend on fitness and form when it comes to competing for medals.

"I'm genuinely really, really happy and I had a great time [in Beijing]. It was one of those invaluable experiences where I learned so much and I was so grateful to have the opportunity to run in such an iconic venue," she told GB's official website.

"I guess everything is building towards Rio now for me. I'm going into this winter with the motivation that I want to be an Olympian next year.

"I really don't know if I'm targeting a medal at the Olympics or not yet – it completely depends on what happens next season and what shape my body is in. Everybody will want to go to the Olympic Games and win a medal but it does completely depend on what happens as the season goes on."

As well as the 200m, there has been speculation that Asher-Smith will also look to compete in the 100m in Rio.
