Katarina Johnson-Thompson has failed to record a legitimate attempt in the long jump in the heptathlon, all but ruling her out of the race for a medal at the World Athletics Championships.
The 22-year-old needed to win the event to close the gap to Jessica Ennis-Hill at the top of the leaderboard, but her first two jumps were given the red flag.
Johnson-Thompson bounded in for her final attempt and recorded a huge jump, which would have propelled her into the lead in the event to challenge Ennis-Hill for the gold.
However, she left a slight indentation on the plasticine, and after much dispute between herself and the judges they put up the red flag, preventing her from recording any points in the long jump, all but ruling her out of contention for a medal.
There are two events remaining in the heptathlon.
