British Sprinters hit out at Chijindu Ujah's selection

Great Britain would have won a medal in the men's 4x100m relay had Chijindu Ujah not been selected, according to Richard Kilty and James Ellington.

Richard Kilty and James Ellington have criticised the decision to include Chijindu Ujah in the Great Britain team for yesterday's final of the men's 4x100m relay team at the World Athletics Championships.

Kilty, Ellington, Daniel Talbot and Harry Aikines-Aryeetey guided the Brits through the semi-finals, but the latter of the quartet was dropped for the final, with the management having opted to select 21-year-old Ujah.

The decision backfired as Ellington and Ujah ended up being involved in a mix up at the final changeover, which meant that once again the British men had failed to get the baton round successfully.

Speaking to reporters after the race, Kilty insisted that the squad would have won a medal had Aikines-Aryeetey not been dropped.

"It's just heartbreaking knowing it would have been so easy to get bronze. We ran a lot better in the heat the first three legs. It's teamwork, individuals don't make teams," said the Scot.

"Last year we were perfect, we were solid. We won everything. That's what you get for bringing in people who haven't run. It's teamwork. It's not about speed, it's about coming together as a team."

Meanwhile, Ellington added: "We have to go back and sit down as it's unstable. We don't have a proper, solid coach taking order. Every relay race this year the team has switched from heats to world relays final."

The race was won by a Usain Bolt-inspired Jamaica, with China in second and Canada in the bronze medal position.
