Uganda's Stephen Kiprotich emerged victorious from the men's marathon at the Olympic Games in London this afternoon.
The 23-year-old found himself as part of a breakaway trio with Kenyans Abel Kirui and Wilson Kipsang after the halfway stage.
Despite appearing to be suffering with an injury, the eventual winner made a kick for the line with 5km remaining, which his rivals had no answer to. He eventually crossed the line in a time of 2:08.01.
Kirui claimed silver, while his compatriot Kipsang took bronze.
Kiprotich's success has made him only the second Ugandan to win a gold medal at an Olympic Games.
