Noah Lyles has completed a sprint double at the World Athletics Championships by winning gold in the men's 200m on Friday night.

Earlier this week, the American claimed his first major success in the 100m, but he was a far clearer favourite to earn a third world title in his preferred discipline.

While Lyles failed to deliver on a PB and world record as he had predicted, a time of 19.52 seconds was more than enough to see off his competition.

Compatriot Erriyon Knighton and Botswana's Letsile Tebogo secured silver and bronze in 19.75 and 19.81 respectively, clear of Great Britain's Zharnel Hughes in fourth.

Hughes, who was third in the 100m, would have needed to have set a massive new PB to get anywhere close to Lyles, and he immediately accepted being outclassed on the evening.

In the women's equivalent, Shericka Jackson produced one of the greatest 200m runs of all time to win in a Championship record of 21.41 seconds.

The defending champion blitzed the rest of the field, storming clearing of the pack before eventually winning by 0.4 seconds.

American duo Gabrielle Thomas and Sha'Carri Richardson, the 100m world champion, earned silver and bronze as British pair Daryll Neita and Dina Asher-Smith missed out.

Neita set a new PB of 22.16 seconds to finish in fifth, while Asher-Smith could only conclude the race in seventh in 22.34.
