London's bid to host the World Athletics Championships in 2017 has received the backing from IAAF senior vice-president Bob Hersh.
The proposal, which is being fronted by Lord Coe and UK Athletics, has revealed that they plan to use the Olympic stadium in London as the main venue for the event.
"[London] is a wonderful city, the stadium is world class and we're pleased with the passion and commitment of UK Athletics and the people who are involved in this bid," said Hersh.
"UKA have shown they are capable of holding a successful World Championships."
A decision on the destination of the competition is due to be made next month.
