The Brooklyn Nets have announced that Deron Williams will undergo surgery on both of his ankles next week.
The point guard, who has struggled with numerous ankle injuries in the last two seasons, had an MRI scan on Monday before it was decided that the operation would be necessary.
The team's foot and ankle specialist, Dr Martin O'Malley, said in a statement: "He will have a bone chip removed from his right ankle, and the left ankle will have an arthroscopic cleanout with removal of spurs from both the front and back of the ankle."
Williams averaged 14.3 points per game in the regular season and 14.5 during the playoffs.
